Art Challenges for 2010

When is the next Art Challenge? Images will be available electronically at least one month before each Art Challenge and finished works are accepted up to one month from the challenge month. Please make sure we have an email address for you to send the image.

March 2010:  Ostriches of Chandler AZ in celebration of the 22nd year of the ostrich festival in Chandler.

IMAGES DUE APRIL 30, 2010 to Info@ArtOnlineAZ.com

Who can participate? We will be promoting and exhibiting the next challenge ONLINE only, and it is open to all students, emerging and established artists. Starting in May, artists will be asked to pay a $5 entry fee. All artists must agree to the commission agreement below if offering their art work for sale.

Can Art Challenge pieces be priced to sell? Yes. All artists may price their Art Challenge pieces to sell with a 25% commission rate. Artists who wish to price their art to sell must sign the commission agreement on the submission form and agree to the commission arrangement before they can offer their work for sell.

Does the Art Challenge piece have to be based on the selected photo? Yes. The artistic image and representation must be based on the same photo, which changes with each challenge. Images that are clearly not inspired by the selected photo or by another outside photo will not be accepted. However, you have freedom within the image to change colors, configurations, mediums, etc.

Is there any prize or award for best picture? While this is all in the spirit of fun and creativity, yes, we do plan to have prizes in the future. In addition, we will be adding a method for viewers to vote on their favorite pieces, as well as a possible exhibit of the top-ranked pieces. But we most want to enjoy sharing the many inspired works and offering students an opportunity to explore their inner artist!

Where do the images come from? Gallery artists usually provide original photos for consideration and many of them are consulted about each selection. If you have an original photo (no copyrighted images unless your own) that you would like to be considered, please email a copy to Laurie Fagen at Laurie@ArtOnlineAZ.com. You will not be able to claim copyright to the copies distributed to artists and students or to the images created as a result of that distribution, but if your photo is selected for an Art Challenge, you will receive credit for the photo in all written and verbal promotional materials.

Art on Boston Gallery closed

Due to the  continued poor economy, Art on Boston Gallery in historic downtown Chandler has closed after nearly three years in business.

Art on Boston opened in April 2007 to represent established and emerging artists, provide group shows for local art organizations, provide working studio spaces and art classes. With the downturn in the economy in 2009, owners Laurie Fagen and Wendy Fallon converted to an all artist participation gallery and the nonprofit Art on Boston Community School of the Arts (CSA) got its start here.  Art on Boston also brought in Valley Fever Improv, an improvisational comedy troupe that has been performing twice a month in the gallery.

Artwork was exhibited at Art on Boston through March 27, and final art classes were held through the same time.

CSA continues to operate through its website, www.aobcommunityschoolarts.org and will continue to provide multi-generational art classes and programming in the area.

Valley Fever Improv is seeking a new home in the Chandler/Gilbert area in which to perform, and can be contacted at www.valleyfeverimprov.com.

Laurie Fagen has launched Art Online AZ, a virtual contemporary art gallery, and www.ArtOnlineAZ.com to promote fine art and fine artists, and continue many of the programs started at Art on Boston Gallery.

Thanks for your support for these past three years!
